Prudhoe bounced back in style with a brilliant performance against Chester-Le-Street Town at Moor Park
Matt Law broke the deadlock for the YC early in the second half, before Freddie Marr extended the advantage with a screamer in the 66th minute. The home side got a goal back in the 81st minute through Kieran Hall but Prudhoe held on to claim all three points.
The YC came into the tie hoping to get back to winning ways after recent defeats to Redcar Athletic and Darlington Town.
Neither team began the game in quick paced fashion, as an offside goal for Chester-Le-Street Town in the 9th minute was the only highlight of a cagey opening half an hour.
Towards the end of the half the home side seized more control with sustained pressure around Prudhoe’s penalty area, however the YC managed to hold on until the half time whistle.
In the second period, the away side’s Tom Dawson was brought into action in the 53rd minute with a solid stop to prevent Luke Collins’ edge of the box effort.
Chester-le-Street Town’s positive start to the half was punctured as Prudhoe opened the scoring minutes later. A pinpoint diagonal ball from Lucca Taylor reached Collins Unuareokpa down the left flank, who passed across the box to Law, giving the right winger an empty net to fire into.
The YC’s delight was almost immediately dashed away as Owen Imeson danced into the Prudhoe box. Before the player could get a shot off, Liam Dalton swooped in with a last-ditch tackle to maintain the away side’s lead.
Prudhoe looked to be in pole position to win the game in the 66th minute, courtesy of a Marr wonder strike. Unuareokpa was at the heart of play yet again, dribbling down the left side before picking out Marr at the edge of the box. A smart turn allowed the player to open up and rifle an inch perfect effort into the top left corner.
Chester-le-Street Town set the game up for an interesting climax with ten minutes of normal time to go. Hall fired home from a few yards out, after a period of carnage in Prudhoe’s box.
There was a strong penalty claim for the YC in the 82nd minute as Law got the better of his man and collided with Alex Lawrence, however the game carried on.
Shortly after, the home side had a huge chance to level the tie, with Michael Gray blazing over the bar from close range.
The final exchanges of the game proved to be tense as Chester le Street Town chased a breakthrough. That said, Prudhoe dug deep and took all the spoils as the referee blew full time in the 95th minute.
