After two draws against Esh Winning and FC Hartlepool respectively, the YC hoped to return to winning ways against their high-flying opponents.
As for the away side, Horden looked to carry on their exceptional run of form in the league, losing just one of their last 32 games.
Only a minute into the match, Prudhoe could’ve taken the lead. Lucca Taylor latched onto Freddie Marr’s free kick well inside the box but couldn’t find one of the corners with his effort.
From here, the league leaders responded with several big chances in the first 20 minutes.
The first of these came in the 13th minute, with Horden’s Ben Henderson finding Robbie Bird free in the YC box, however the winger’s effort blazed over the bar.
Five minutes later, another chance went begging as Kyle Davis fired over the bar from close range, following Bird’s neat pass.
In the second half, the away team almost broke the deadlock again. Sam Wilson was forced to produce a superb reflex save to stop a dangerous header from The Marras’ Ben Riding.
At the hour mark, Prudhoe nearly got their breakthrough in the game. Michael Wright’s darting run into the Horden box caused a scramble at the goal line, however the away side eventually cleared away.
Another opportunity fell the YC’s way five minutes later. After strong hold up play, Sam Davison released Brad Lowes down the right flank, who forced a stellar stop out of Horden’s Andrew Fletcher.
With Prudhoe now firmly in the ascendancy, the home side seemed to have got their goal after 78 minutes.
Taylor’s threaded ball from the centre of the park fell perfectly into the stride of Matt Law. The winger ended the move with a composed finish, but the linesman waved for offside.
Perhaps against the run of play, The Marras snatched a vital three points in the 89th minute. After a collision in the YC box, the referee signalled to the spot, with Campbell confidently firing home into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0.
A tough one for Prudhoe to take, the YC’s attention now turns to Grangetown, who they face at Essity Park on Tuesday night.
