Town’s Jos Storr broke the deadlock in an evenly matched first half on 35 minutes, before Kayden Robinson-Coley doubled Redcar’s lead against the run of play in the 78th minute.
Prudhoe finally got their goal just before injury time through Collins Unuareokpa, however this proved to be only a consolation.
The YC hoped to change their fortunes in Northern League Division Two following a winless run of six matches, whereas Redcar looked to capitalise on recent momentum, with the side progressing to the semi-finals of the North Riding FA Senior Cup last week.
Prudhoe almost took the lead after five minutes as Harry Marr won the ball deep in the Redcar half then laid into Freddie Marr, who released Unuareokpa. The winger’s near post-strike inside the box forced Will Cowey into a smart stop.
In the 32nd minute, Redcar looked certain to score when Robinson Coley coolly rounded Sam Wilson leaving an open goal, before Riley Boertien came to the YC’s rescue with a last-ditch goal line clearance.
Moments later, the away side had a chance of their own. Unuareokpa was at the heart of things again, threading a ball through to Marr who couldn’t lift his effort enough to beat Town’s keeper.
With ten minutes of the half to play, Storr gathered his fourth goal in the last two league games, giving the home side the lead. The number nine combined well with Robinson Coley and rounded the YC keeper to tap into an open net.
In the second half, Prudhoe came out the blocks firing with a multitude of chances early on.
The first came in the 54th minute as Unuareokpa unleashed Matt Law in the box, with Cowey making himself big to thwart the chance.
A few minutes later, Fin Baty’s soaring strike from the edge of the box was saved brilliantly by the Redcar keeper. From the chance, Unuareokpa gathered the ball, cut inside and fired with his left, with the effort flying just past the post.
At 65 minutes, Unuareokpa beat Lee Blackburn for pace down the right hand side and rifled an effort searching for the roof of the net. Luckily for Redcar, Cowey made yet another superb stop to keep Town in the ascendancy.
Several other opportunities went begging for the YC as the home side desperately held onto their foothold in the game.
Prudhoe were made to pay for their missed efforts when Robinson Coley put Redcar two goals to the good five minutes later. The number 10 calmly dispatched his effort under Wilson, taking the tie away from the away team.
Unuareokpa halved the deficit on the 90-minute mark, rattling his effort through the keeper’s legs after latching onto Dalton’s lofted ball.
This opening for the YC showed to be too late into the game as Redcar held on to claim all three points.
Next up Prudhoe face Sunderland RCA at Essity Park, this Saturday 8th Feb 3pm ko
